Mandeville Regional Hospital Set to Improve Patient Care and Capacity Following 44-bed Donation

The Mandeville Regional Hospital in Manchester has received a donation of 44 hospital beds, which will bolster its capacity in providing improved patient care.

The beds were donated by the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation and Project CURE (Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment) with logistics and transportation support from Just a Bunch of Roadies. The beds were officially handed over on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

CEO for the facility, Alwyn Miller, who was on hand to accept the donation, stated that the beds will replace ageing units and expand capacity in key areas.

“We are indeed very grateful for these beds. They will serve as replacements for some beds that we have on the ward that need to be replaced, and additional beds in some cases. These will go a far way in strengthening our ability to accommodate our patients in a more comfortable and appropriate environment. We are grateful that they have considered Mandeville Regional Hospital to be a recipient of these beds” Mr. Miller said.

He explained that the hospital has had to find creative solutions to manage the surge in patients, following Hurricane Melissa, adding that while current figures show a slight decrease from peak levels, the hospital

continues to operate above its pre-hurricane average.

“Well, the count up to yesterday (February 20) was about 300, approximately 320 patients. The normal average prior to the hurricane was in the proximity of about 275, and since the hurricane, the highest it has gone to is about 361. Our team is working assiduously” the CEO pointed out.

Kenisha Gibson, who represented the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation and Project CURE, noted that the teams are happy to make the donation to the hospital and will also be supporting the Savanna-lar Hospital with 80 beds.
