Lengendary reggae drummer Sly Dunbar is dead. Sly passed away on Monday January 26, 2026. He was 73 years old.
Dunbar was one half of the reggae drum and bass duo Sly and Robbie. Robbie Shakespeare passed away in 2021.
Dunbar had been ailing for some time but remained musically active still creating killer beats and producing established and upcoming artistes.
Dunbar's contribution to the music world is immeasurable. His unique drumming style and innovative approach helped define reggae as a genre. Sly and Robbie collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Grace Jones, leaving an indelible mark on the soundscape of the 70s and 80s.
After Dunbar's passing, many musicians and fans alike took to social media to pay tribute to the iconic drummer. His impact on both established artists and new talents is evident, as he mentored many young musicians seeking to find their place in the reggae scene.
His legacy lives on through countless recordings and performances that continue to inspire.
