Dream Wknd has officially unveiled a bold new era, with Montego Bay set to host the Caribbean's premier summer festival as organizers, government leaders and tourism stakeholders celebrated the festival's highly anticipated move to
Jamaica's tourism capital.
After 16 iconic years in Negril, Dream Wknd is entering its next phase of growth, bringing with it an expanded vision for entertainment tourism, enhanced visitor experiences and increased economic opportunities for western Jamaica.
The official launch, held Wednesday evening, brought together representatives from government, tourism, law enforcement, the private sector and the media, all united in their support of a move widely viewed as a transformative moment for both the festival and Montego Bay's entertainment landscape.
With more than 30,000 patrons expected over the festival period, Dream Wknd is projected to generate significant economic activity across St. James, creating opportunities for accommodation providers, transportation operators, restaurants, attractions, event suppliers and hundreds of small businesses that support Jamaica's vibrant tourism and creative industries.
Welcoming the festival to the city, Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Richard Vernon, described Dream Wknd as an important milestone in the city's continued evolution as one of the Caribbean's leading destinations for entertainment and tourism.
"Today marks the official launch of Dream Wknd in our beloved home, and we stand ready to embrace this extraordinary celebration of culture, entertainment and economic vitality," Vernon said. "Dream Wknd will be a catalyst for growth and renewal, and the confidence demonstrated by the promoters in choosing Montego Bay will be met with unwavering support from our institutions and our people."
The festival's arrival was also hailed as a significant step in strengthening Jamaica's entertainment tourism product.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Hon. Tova Hamilton, said Dream Wknd represents the type of immersive, culturally authentic experience that increasingly defines the future of global travel.
"Today's traveller does not only want a hotel room or a beach chair. They want a story. They want culture. They want food, music, movement, connection and memories," Hamilton said. "Dream Wknd is more than a party. It is a platform. When Jamaica hosts,
the people must earn."
Hamilton noted that events of this scale create opportunities far beyond the entertainment industry, generating income for performers, event professionals, transportation providers, caterers, decorators, photographers, videographers, security personnel, vendors and countless entrepreneurs whose livelihoods are strengthened by tourism.
Reinforcing the city's readiness to host thousands of local and international visitors, Senior Superintendent of Police, Eron Samuels, outlined the comprehensive security and operational measures that will support the festival, including enhanced policing, coordinated traffic management and close collaboration among public sector agencies and event organizers to ensure a safe and seamless experience.
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for North West St. James, Dr. Horace Chang, Melissa Chang described Dream Wknd's arrival as the beginning of a new chapter in Montego Bay's entertainment renaissance. She also shared the Government's vision for expanding the city's entertainment infrastructure, including Dr. Chang's commitment to the development of a resilient concert venue that will further strengthen Montego Bay's capacity to host major events.
For Dream Entertainment Limited, however, the move is about far more than a new location. Head of Operations, Macheri Samuels, said the decision reflects the company's commitment tocontinually reinventing the Dream Wknd experience while building on the legacy established over the past 16 years.
"People often ask us, 'Why Montego Bay'; My answer is simple: because every great brand has to keep evolving. Dream Wknd has never stood still, and neither should the experience we deliver," Samuels said. She explained that years of planning, collaboration and investment have culminated in what will be the festival's most ambitious staging to date. "Negril gave Dream Wknd its roots, its memories and its legacy. Now, Montego Bay gives us the opportunity to write the next chapter, building on everything that came before to create an experience that's even bigger, bolder and more immersive."
Emphasizing the company's long-term commitment to its new home, Samuels added: "Dream Wknd isn't just coming to Montego Bay, we're becoming part of Montego Bay."
This year's festival introduces an expanded footprint across several of Montego Bay's most iconic venues, featuring reimagined editions of signature events including Bad Beaches at Tropical Bliss Beach, Dream Live and Igloo at The Aqueduct, Daydreams, Yush and Xodus
Remedy at the Montego Bay Convention Center, Wet N Wild at The Palms at Jewel Grande, and Foul Play at Pier 1. Organizers say patrons can expect immersive production, innovative venue transformations, premium hospitality experiences and elevated entertainment throughout the five-day celebration.
As Dream Wknd begins this exciting new chapter, the festival's relocation signals more than a change of scenery. It represents the continued evolution of one of Jamaica's most influential entertainment brands and reinforces the island's position as a global leader in music, culture and experiential tourism.
